Knitted Articles

In addition to many of the other clothing items listed there are a number of knitted clothing articles that members will find especially helpful when it comes to keeping warm. These clothing articles may include:

Sweaters
Sleeveless Sweaters
Knit or Watch caps
Balaklavas or Knitted Hoods
Scarves
Mittens
Wristers

Knitted articles were generally provided to the American soldier through aid organizations such as the Red Cross. Knitting for the soldiers overseas became a fad throughout the country as men, women, and children tried their hands at knitting.
When selecting knitted items remember that olive drab was the most common color, however, other shades of green, dark blue, gray and brown were also used for knitted items and colors such as “scotch” were sometimes listed in knitting pattern books published by yarn companies.  It is important that knitted items are made of wool for both authenticity and comfort. Knitted wool articles have the benefit of keeping the wearer warm even when damp. Please keep in mind that many of these articles are hand made and are therefore priced accordingly.
